38CC Delft
curated by Veerle Driessen
Using clay, sand, bone-like branches, fish skin, sisal, textiles, and kilometers of embroidery thread, Eva Spierenburg creates a temporary universe at 38CC. The artist transforms the exhibition space into a landscape-as-body, built from drawings and installations inspired by her stay in Iceland. The exhibition questions the boundary between our body and the Earth, building on the notion that as mortal beings we are interwoven in the greater body of the eternal universe.
‘Our bodies absorb the environment and vice versa, making us part of a fluid whole that is constantly in motion. This means that our body is not a separate entity, detached from other bodies and from nature. In daily life here in the Netherlands, I currently find it very difficult to feel this sense of connectedness with everything and everyone — in Iceland, it was much easier. I think that, right now, my work is an attempt to hold on to and convey the sense of connection I experienced there.’
