being, 2024

The series 'being' was created for the Paper Biennale 2024, with the theme 'Animal Farm'. The series questions the differences between humans and animals and shows our physical, biological kinship.

The works are based on MRI images of the head of a pig, sheep, dog, horse and cow, and one MRI image of my own torso- together referring to the main characters in 'Animal Farm'. The starting point is the quote 'all animals are equal, but some are more equal than others'. In this series I zoom in on the inside of the body; after all, humans and non-human animals consist of the same matter. As humans, we place ourselves higher in the hierarchy based on our brain capacity and development, making animals and nature in general a subordinate asset to be used as desired.
